Send a TXT via a Short Link
Upload a file here and get a short, short-lived link you can open on another device — like putting a TXT onto a Kindle. The receiving device only needs to open a plain link and download it; it doesn’t need modern JavaScript, WebRTC, or any app.
On the other device, open this short link and tap the file to download:
is short to type on a Kindle. The link
expires automatically.
How To Use
- Choose the file you want to share (a TXT or any small file).
- Pick how long the link should last, then press Create link.
- Open the generated link on the other device (e.g. your Kindle), or type the short link shown.
Usage Example
You have war-and-peace.txt on your laptop and want to read
it on a Kindle that only has its basic experimental browser. Choose the
file, keep the default 30 minutes, and press Create link.
You get a short link such as
utiltown.com/f/a7Kx2mQ9 — type or paste that on the Kindle,
tap the file name, and the download starts. After 30 minutes the copy on
the server deletes itself; nothing remains to clean up.
Use Cases
- Kindle & e-reader loading: e-ink browsers have no WebRTC and often weak JavaScript, but they open plain URLs — exactly what a short download link is. This is the companion tool to P2P File Share for devices that can't pair.
- Help-desk handoffs: send a config or log file to someone over chat as a short link that dies in an hour, instead of an email attachment that lives in both mailboxes forever.
- Cross-device one-shot transfers: move a file to a borrowed or public computer without signing in to anything — open the link, download, done.
- Async sharing: unlike browser-to-browser pairing, both sides don't need to be online at the same moment — the link waits for the receiver within the expiry window you chose.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as the P2P file share tool?
No. This tool posts a copy of your file to Cloudflare for a few minutes so a device with a limited browser, such as a Kindle, can open a plain link and download it. The P2P tool transfers files directly between browsers with nothing stored.
How long does the file stay available?
It auto-deletes from our Cloudflare KV after the minutes you choose (default 30, up to 120). It is never stored permanently.
Does it work on an old or limited browser like a Kindle?
Yes. The receiving side only needs to open a plain .txt URL to download it — no JavaScript or WebRTC required.
How big a file can I send?
Up to 25 MB on this host. Sizes near that are best; text and ebook files are normally far smaller.
